Term 4 Recount
Kia ora
Here is the recount I wrote for an Asttle writing test in Week 4. Our teacher marked all our recounts and gave us our scores. Mine came out at Level 3B which is at the end of year standard for Year Five. I got the best marks for ideas and structure and the lowest marks for vocabulary.
We helped each other improve them by reading each other’s recount and talking about them. We also used Revision Assistant to help edit each other’s story and Mrs B added some notes as well. Everyone in our room likes Revision Assistant because it’s easy to understand the marks/ notes that it puts on your writing and so it’s quick for us to go and do the fix-ups. We have to have practically perfect grammar, punctuation and spelling in our stories before we are allowed to publish them here. I hope someone will give me some feedback.

‘’Whoo hoo!’’ I yelled excitedly, “It's time to go to the airport, so myself and my mum can catch a plane to Australia.” While we were waiting at the airport it was really boring so we went to get some Burger King. For my meal I had a Cheeseburger combo. After we ate I raced to our gate number 5 with my mum. We got out some coins and had a massage on the massage machine.
When it was time to board the plane we got out our passports and showed the air hostess man. He said yes we could go through on the plane to go to Australia. I was so excited.
Once we sat down on our chair we looked to see if there was a TV with headphones but there wasn’t. How dumb is that? So myself and my mum went straight to sleep but we were uncomfortable so I sat up and got out the magazine that we had bought while we were heading to our gate. I had a bit of a read about One Direction and I found out about Louis from One Direction. He was a dad to a little boy named Frank. He looks really cute. The food finally came around but you had to pay for. It wasn’t like other planes.
Once we got off our plane we went to go get our bags from the bag machine and headed off to customs. Once we were through customs we headed out the door to find my nana, Kerry. I ran to her in my high-heel boots that went click, click, click, click. I zoomed to her and gave her a big hug like a sloth wrapped around you. We found our car and we back to Nan's house. We had a great time.

Panda fishbone description
Kia ora
This is an activity we did when we were learning how to find facts and put them in the right box on a fishbone diagram. We are learning how to write a report about an animal which is native to China. We are learning about China at the moment because last week was Chinese language week and one of our classmates, Braeden, is half Chinese. The animal I chose was the panda.Something I think I have done well is finding the information and making sure I got the right facts in the right box. It was really hard but fun.Next time I think I could improve by writing more notes and fewer sentences. I need to just write down key words not whole sentences when I am making notes.Ka kite ano.

Ski Trip 2016
'Yipee!' I yelled. It was time for Ohaeawai School's year 5 and year 6 ski trip. This only happens once every 2 years. I was glad that I got to go this year.
Once we arrived at our destination we grabbed our bags, sat down on the couch and got told our room numbers. In my room there was myself, Kate, Mia and Lani. Our room was very noisy at night but we got through it. A really cool part was dinner: we got three courses which were entree, main and dessert.
The second day there we all went to hire our ski gear and once we all got it we went to our ski lesson. After that, we all went skiing on our own. I loved going down Happy Valley for sure.
Next, I had a snack and a drink of water and went off skiing and did the same thing again.
At the end of the afternoon, it got boring because we had to go back to the lodge where we were staying and un- pack all our ski gear so it was ready for the next day. We took our lunch boxes out and and cleaned them. Then we all played out side on the playground or played some sports. It was pretty fun. Then we had some afternoon tea which was mostly fruit.
On the third day there we went back skiing but it was our last skiing day. We were all sorry when the skiing was over because it had been a super fun time.

Pippers lodge Thank you letter
Kia ora
Here is my thank you letter to Piper's Lodge which is where we stayed during our ski trip. I have included a photo of myself with the trout I caught when we went to the National Trout Centre at Turangi.
I think I wrote a good letter and it was a polite letter.

Dear Piper’s Lodge
I am writing to thank you very much for looking after us so well during our stay last week..
I really enjoyed the whole week because your beds were comfy, your bathrooms were clean and fresh and your meals were delicious. My favourite meal was the fish and chips.
I hope I can come and stay at Piper’s Lodge again, one day.
Sincerely
Kyra Holmes
